Race Preview
Crest Of Fire looks the one to beat after an excellent second at Ascot, where he was only denied by a nose in a race that has already worked out exceptionally well. The winner, Ciarrai Abu, franked the form by following up at Goodwood earlier in the week, suggesting Jack Channon's improving three-year-old is still well handicapped despite a 4lb rise.
He has already shown his class when finishing third in the Silver Bowl at Carlisle and should have no problem with this extra furlong. His progressive profile makes him the standout in a competitive handicap.
Blue Courvoisier rates the main danger. He won the Silver Bowl in convincing fashion before shaping better than the result in the Britannia, racing on the unfavoured side at Royal Ascot. Clive Cox's colt remains lightly raced and still looks capable of further improvement.
Spell Master is an interesting contender back at a more suitable level. His York effort in the John Smith's Cup wasn't devoid of promise, and dropping back in both class and trip could see him return to the form that earned him a solid third at Newmarket. He's also a previous course winner.
Boyfriend arrives in career-best form after a win and a strong placed effort at Sandown and has solid course form, while Point Of Contact is worth another chance after failing to stay 1m2f last time following an impressive York success.
El Matador continues to run consistently without getting his head in front and should once again be competitive if the race unfolds kindly.
Value Angle
Spell Master makes plenty of appeal at each-way odds. He's proven at Goodwood, shaped well in stronger company at York and should find this drop in class much more to his liking.
