Up For Review was put down after suffering a serious leg injury.

It’s the first fatality in the Grand National since 2012, where Synchronised and According To Pete suffered fatal injuries.

ITV racing presenter Ed Chamberlin broke the news live on air.

He said: “I’m afraid it’s bad news with Up For Review who fell at the first fence.

“I’m sad to report he sustained a fatal injury.

“All our thoughts go to trainer Willie Mullins, Danny Mullins who rode Up for Review and poor Graham Wylie.

“He’s one of the nicest men in racing and he’s had the most awful luck of late.

“Our thoughts also go to Will Ingram, who looked after Up For Review.

“This is a sport and a race that has a trap door to despair. It does break hearts but it also makes legends.”

Fans took to social media to hail Up For Review following the horrible news.

One fan said: “Up For Review has sadly died following a fatal injury at the first fence. RIP. #GrandNational2019”

Another added: “Spare a thought for Graham Wylie. Two horses lost at Cheltenham and Up For Review today.”

“Awful awful awful news about Up for Review #GrandNational2019,” another said.

Tiger Roll won the Grand National on Saturday evening.

Tiger Roll became the first horse to win back-to-back Grand Nationals since Red Rum in the 1970s.

Winning jockey Davy Russell hailed Tiger Roll after the historic win, adding trainer Gordon Elliott deserves all the credit.

“I can't believe it,” Russell said. “That's the man there (pointing at trainer Gordon Elliott).

“Louise who looks after him does a great job. At my age now to win two Grand Nationals – wow.

“Dad came over this year to watch. Gordon has been so good to me over my career. What can I say.”
