The penultimate race of the day at tonight’s evening meeting at Newcastle is the scene of our NAP.
Seven-year-old Landing Night returns to a venue he’s been successful at, off his last all-weather winning mark and under a jockey he’s done exceedingly well with.
A drop in class will also be a massive help for Landing Nights chances.
It’s a very competitive race and fellow course and distance winner Lord Of The Glen, despite being unsuccessful for a long while, could bounce back, especially with Joe Fanning in the saddle.
Of the remainder the likes of Wiff Waff, Another Angel and Gamesome all have viable chances but if Landing Night bounces back to near his best he’ll go very close indeed.
LANDING NIGHT (WIN) – NAP
13:00 Market Rasen
A very intriguing hurdle race where a case could easily be made for the majority of today’s eight runners.
The in-form trainer Olly Murphy sends former course winner Let’s Get At It back to Market Rasen to emulate his recent success. A step up in trip should bring about further improvement but he’s not the most consistent and after a hike in the weights is opposed.
Unlike the aforementioned Let’s Get At It Fergal O’Brien’s Ballyhome barely runs a bad race. A drop in class after an encouraging third-placed effort will certainly be of benefit but with the yard badly out of form punters will have to hope the stable have put their poor performances behind them.
Seen by many as the best National Hunt jockey in the North, Brian Hughes’ rides instantly demand respect. He climbs aboard the lightly raced six-year-old Weakfield who comes from a yard who are bang in form. Brian Ellison has his horses operating at a 30% strike rate in the past fortnight and although Weakfield is yet to show as much as his rivals have but a Chance is taken on a horse who’s shown bags of promise.
