The Mark Johnston-trained four-year-old has built up a remarkable record with form figures of 3-1-2-1-1-1-1 and is bidding for a five-timer in the Move Over To Matchbook Handicap.

Surprisingly, stable jockey Joe Fanning has only been on board for the last of Matterhorn’s five career wins, but he does the steering again as the gelding tackles the Kempton track for the first time.

Matterhorn has to give weight away to all his rivals, but looks well up to the task.

Executive Force, like the selection, is on a five-timer after wins at Newcastle (twice) and Chelmsford City (twice) and will give Matterhorn plenty to think about.

EDGAR (nb, 2.10) can give punters the perfect start to the day in the first race of the day at Fontwell.

David Bridgwater’s runner was a good second at Plumpton in January before scoring in good style at Leicester last month in the hands of 5lb claimer Mitchell Bastyan, who again takes the ride.

Edgar had four lengths to spare over Kahdian at the Midlands track and a 4lb rise seems perfectly fair.

Back at Kempton, JAHBATH (treble, 7.00) can take the Road To The Kentucky Derby Conditions Stakes for trainer William Haggas.

Jahbath, who will be partnered by Jim Crowley, finished second on his Salisbury debut, but has scored on his other three outings, two of them here.

He came back refreshed after a 79-break to scorch home by seven lengths at Southwell last time and looks a useful performer in the making. He can land this before tackling higher-grade races.
