The four-year-old won at the Roodeye 12 months ago over a mile and a half and was a model of consistency all season, including a pair of placed runs in Listed company. 

But Mark Johnston, left, had Austrian School firing on all cylinders on his seasonal reappearance at Musselburgh last month, where he only had to be pushed out to win by six lengths. He can defy a 3lb penalty for that victory.

Cleonte may give the selection most to do. He is another who is a step ahead of the handicapper, and his four-length third in the Sagaro Stakes last week behind Dee Ex Bee was a good effort. 

Over the minimum trip KACHY (4.10, nb) can make it four wins on the bounce, having won the All-Weather Sprint Championship at Lingfield on Good Friday. 

Tom Dascombe’s six-year-old won this same race last year. Dascombe can instigate a double with EPAULEMENT (3.00, treble) earlier in the afternoon.  

The four-year-old led all the way over a furlong shorter than this mile and a quarter at Ripon last month, when a game half- length victor over Poet’s Prince.

Front-runners go well here and if dominating at the head of the field from a good draw, he will be hard to peg back.
