Nick Luck Racing Preview – Saturday 8th December 2018
It's a mouth-watering weekend of National Hunt action ahead, with action from Sandown and Aintree on Saturday. As always, BetBright's Racing Ambassador, Nick Luck, is here with his selections, most notably, for the Tingle Creek and Becher Handicap Chase.
Sandown 1.50 – Lalor
A strong favourite on what he achieved at Cheltenham, Lalor should win again. He’s got loads of good form on soft ground, so that’s not really a worry, and he should be able to get the perfect trip in behind Diakali and Highway One O One, who could outrun his odds.
Sandown 2.25 – Eragon de Chanay
This is not a strong edition of this race, and it may pay to side with a horse whose best efforts have come at Sandown on really heavy ground. Once again, Niall Houlihan can claim a whopping 10 lbs, and you can expect him to give this a good go from the front.
Sandown 3.00 – Un de Sceaux
A wonderful Tingle Creek, and there’s just a possibility that Un de Sceaux could overturn the mighty Altior. Simply, he’s won 22 out of 29, loves a right handed track, is a staying two-miler, adores cut in the ground and has knocked in 7 x 170+ Racing Post Ratings in his last 8 starts. He’s magnificently consistent, has been often underrated and is too big a price under ideal conditions.
Sandown 3.35 – Red Infantry
A smallish field for this staying prize, and there’s every chance there’s quite a bit more to come from Red Infantry over extreme distances. He has as stamina-laden a pedigree as just about any horse in training and arrives here in fantastic form. Robbie Dunne is excellent in long distance races and can deliver Ian Williams another High profile winner.
Aintree 1.30 – Noble Endeavor
It’s a massive ask for a horse to win a Becher Chase off a near two year layoff, but Gordon Elliott is no ordinary trainer, and I’m hoping he can pull it off with Noble Endeavor. He was still improving when last we saw him, is generally a very sound jumper, and can travel sweetly in a big field. If he’s ready, he had a huge chance.
Aintree 2.05 – Definitly Red
He bolted up from the front in a better renewal of this last year, and against two unreliable horses and one coming back from an injury, he should do the double, particularly as he’s in great form and handles conditions.
Aintree 3.15 – Catamaran du Seuil
Another progressive project from the Dr Newland academy, Catamaran du Seuil seems to have improved a deal since dropping in trip. He has a forward run style that should suit the track and has completed every one of his 20 starts.
