Timeform pick out their best back, lay and smart stat bets for Friday's Flat action…
“…although she has to carry a 6 lb penalty here, it seems likely that she hasn't finished improving yet for her new yard.”
Timeform on Devils Roc
FOUR KINGDOMS – 14:10 Haydock
Haydock's opening race looks a competitive one, though one who makes plenty of appeal is FOUR KINGDOMS. Having offered plenty of encouragement on his first two starts this season, Four Kingdoms ran right up to his best on his most recent start to finish second at Hamilton over a mile last week, impressing with how well he coped with the marked drop back in trip (usually races at closer to two miles). Indeed, the step back up to ten furlongs should therefore be in his favour, and considering his incredible versatility in terms of both ground and trip, he looks one to be interested now back down to his last winning mark.
LITTLE BOY BLUE – 16:50 BATH
With just five runners set to go to post, it seems likely that LITTLE BOY BLUE will be sent off as a short-priced favourite. He's held his form well in four starts so far this season, placing in three of those, most recently when finishing third at Brighton last month. However, it's been a while now since his last victory, which came at Brighton last August, and his consistency means that his mark has remained largely unchanged – and he arrives here still 2 lb higher than his last winning mark. He's likely to run his race once again, though it looks worth taking him on at the prices with Peace Dreamer, who has a good record when returning from a break and arrives here on a good mark – one that's just 3 lb higher than for her last success.
DEVILS ROC – 17:10 Goodwood
£93.48 – Jonathan Portman's profit to a £1 level stake when having one runner at a flat meeting
DEVILS ROC – 17:10 Goodwood has taken a marked step forward since joining Jonathan Portman, and she built on a promising debut effort at Lingfield in April by opening her account at Bath at the beginning of the month on just her second outing for the yard, having every chance two furlongs out and keeping on well after edging ahead inside the final furlong. She showed a willing attitude to get the job done that day, and although she has to carry a 6 lb penalty here, it seems likely that she hasn't finished improving yet for her new yard. Indeed, Jonathan Portman is showing a strong profit when having just one runner at a Flat meeting, and Devils Roc is fancied to enhance it.
