Golden Boot odds update April; Harry Kane displaces favourite Salah

2020-21 Premier league Golden Boot odds update: Harry Kane odds favourite to beat Mohammad Salah.

When Harry Kane converted a penalty in Spurs’ 2-1 win over Aston Villa on March 21st, he equalled Mohammad Salah's tally of 17 goals for the 2020-21 Premier League season.

At one stage, adrift by as many as 4 goals of Salah, Kane found the back of the net four times in his previous five League outings to arrive at the figure of 17. In this, he has been helped by Liverpool's talismanic striker who has quite astonishingly gone through his previous five games without a goal.

With Salah struggling for form and Kane on the ascendancy, the odds for the Golden Boot have swung in favour of the latter for the first time in the season. With the fitness of his goal-scoring partner, Son Heung-Min, in question, the road for Kane is open to rake in quite a few goals before the season ends.

Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes is the next favourite among bookmakers after Kane and Salah for the Golden Boot.

Top Premier League Scorers 2021 season

The 26-year-old Portuguese playmaker is just a goal behind the leading two men at 16. With Manchester United looking to end the season on a high note, Fernandes could be in for quite a few and his ability as the side's chief penalty specialist makes him a strong contender for 2020-21's top goal scorer slot.

But there are others who are in the race.

Leeds United's Patrick Bamford and Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin sit on 14 goals apiece. Given Leeds' all-attack mode and hunger for goals, it may not come as a surprise to many if the prolific Bamford could bridge the gap of three goals needed to catapult him to top by the end of the season.

Son Heung-Min comes in next but given his fitness issues and the manner in which his goal-scoring abilities have evaporated with the passage of the season, the South Korean international can be considered out of contention unless he produces something out of the hat.

Leicester City's Jamie Vardy and Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan are on tallies of 12 goals apiece. But unlike Vardy whose form seems to be tapering off, one can count on Gundogan, surprisingly a midfielder, who has made it a habit to score in every recent outing.

With Manchester City potentially set to rack in many more goals in the final few weeks of the season, Gundogan will have his eyes on the Golden Boot although he is not to be seen in the bookmakers' top seven list.
