Everton v Tottenham Prediction – 13/08/2016 Premier League Match – Risk a High Score Punt

Updated: 28/01/2023

Can Ronald Koeman inspire Everton to overcome Spurs on Saturday.
Everton
Everton have drawn their last three opening Premier League games 2-2: at home to Watford last season, away to Leicester City the season before, and away to Norwich in 2013. On paper, Tottenham Hotspur will be seen as tougher opponents so can Everton go one better and secure an opening day win? The last three seasons' records show that Everton have only won one game in their opening three matches, nine in total, so this might prove to be a challenge unless Ronald Koeman can help inspire a better start.
With some fresh new faces entering the dressing room, the most notable being former Swansea City player and current Wales captain Ashley Williams, could Everton have fresh impetus to make a better start to the campaign than they have in the past three seasons? There are fewer tougher teams to find out against than against Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham
In terms of head-to-head clashes, Tottenham Hotspur will be feeling the more confident having not lost to Everton in the Premier League since 2012. Since then, Spurs have won three of the seven clashes so are Everton due a win against the North London team? Or could another draw be on the cards seeing as that has been the most common result in the past few years?
Tottenham Hotspur have a better opening day record than Everton, having won two of the past three opening day Premier League matches. With a new manager and new signings, could Everton be the toughest opening day opponents of recent seasons? As mentioned above, Everton have not lost the previous three opening day clashes so this will be a challenge for the North London team.
This summer Tottenham Hotspur have kept a hold of their best players, despite media rumours to the contrary, and have signed two well-known names: Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama. Mauricio Pochettino, who has guided Spurs to their first automatic Champions League group stage, will be hoping these signing will ensure a better start to the season than last season, where Spurs did not secure a win in their opening three matches.
Everton v Tottenham Prediction
