Sergio Aguero injury: Will the Manchester City star play against Wolves?

DOUBLE Winnings If a Penalty is Scored at Boylesports

Sergio Aguero made a welcome return to first team action in Gameweeks 20 and 21, scoring against both Southampton and, more crucially, against Liverpool.

Just as his injury troubles seemed to be behind him, however, the Argentine striker missed out on Manchester City's FA Cup and League Cup ties against Rotherham and Burton Albion respectively.

The Sky Blues' top scorer would be sorely missed by City fans and 22 per cent of Fantasy Premier League managers should his absence drag on any longer.

How long could he be out for?

Pep Guardiola has been coy on Aguero's injury, but Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya suggested that the striker was suffering from an illness.

He tweeted: “Aguero was ill (flu) the last days and he couldn’t train. It is expected he comes back to train tomorrow and he could be available for Monday's game against Wolves.”

Haya's claim suggests that Aguero is in the picture to appear for City in Gameweek 22.

Should I get rid of him?

No.

If you've brought the veteran striker into your ranks after his lengthy lay-off then it is worth standing by him.

Aguero has scored two crucial goals in two league games and Guardiola will likely bring him back into the fold as soon as possible.

By the sounds of it, Aguero could feature against Premier League surprise package Wolves.

Potential replacements

If you are set on getting rid of Aguero – and don't say we didn't warn you against it – consider swapping him out for Bobby Firmino. The Brazilian came good for FPL managers in Gameweek 20, scoring a sublime hat-trick against Arsenal.

Roberto Firmino (£9.2m) has managed four goals in two league games including that magnificent hat-trick against the Gunners. If you anticipate more goals from the Brazilian then consider recruiting him for Gameweek 22.

Harry Kane (£12.6m) is always a safe choice in the striking department. Kane has already scored 14 league goals this season adding to his previous tallies of 30, 29 and 25. Expect him to reach a similar total this season.

Gabriel Jesus (£10.1m) is a man growing in confidence, as proven by his four goals against Burton Albion on Wednesday. If Aguero misses out in Gameweek 22, Jesus should prove a worthy replacement.

i verdict

Guardiola is yet to give a full fitness update on Aguero, but by the sounds of it he could face Wolves on Monday night.

Keep Aguero in your squad for now, but listen out for an update on his fitness from Guardiola at his Premier League press conference.
