Manchester United vs Arsenal: Player ratings as Jose Mourinho’s side cling on to draw

Manchester United

David De Gea 4/10

Complete howler trying to catch Mustafi's header. Beaten with a soft shot for Lacazette's. Also saw Mkhitaryan smash a disallowed volley past the face of goal. Grew as the game went on, but overall a poor showing.

Matteo Darmian 4/10

Not that confident on the ball, nor persuasive in terms of positioning. Blocked a threatening run well with some top class impeding and was full of energy early on, but fell quiet and became a weakness to exploit.

Marcos Rojo 5/10

Lacazette's goal was possibly off Rojo's foot, as he slid to challenge him, could also have seen red for his slide on Guendouzi with a harsher ref. Wasteful with the ball, pumping hopeful long balls upfield, and indecisive without it. A poor audition for more regular football.

Chris Smalling 5/10

Unsure at the heart of the back three, despite being the form defender. He passed calmly and without risk, but didn't win his defensive battles.

Eric Bailly 7/10

The best performer in United's backline tonight, with a few Cruyff turns to demonstrate his composure on the ball. He passed well and deserves to be back in the conversation at centre-back.

Diogo Dalot 4/10

Porous in defence and comfortable conceding crosses in dangerous areas. A really shaky Premier League debut from the youngster.

Ander Herrera 8/10

Nearly cleared Mustafi's header off the line. Pursued the saved free-kick delivering it to Anthony Martial for the equaliser – but he was probably offside. Full of energy and directed the play well when United had the ball.

Nemanja Matic 6/10

Lots of headers and marshalling in the midfield, but nothing too impressive from the big Serbian. Bafflingly given Man of the Match by BT.

Anthony Martial 7/10

Good linking up in attack and showed a clinical streak when his opportunity came – but didn't get as involved consistently as he could have.

Jesse Lingard 7/10

A bit shy in the first half, but opportunistic in the second for the goal. Retained the ball well.

Marcus Rashford 7/10

Let off an early long-range shot with venom at Leno, but it was a bit central. Held the ball well as a No 9, clearly frustrated at his teammates' lack of desire to press towards the end.

Substitutes

Romelu Lukaku 6/10

On for Martial, his bulk hoping to be used as a battering ram through the tired Arsenal defence. Made chaos well for Lingard's goal, but not much else.

Marouane Fellaini 5/10

A Mourinho roll of the dice for a goal to clinch it. Other than a disgraceful pull of Guendouzi's hair, possibly in jealousy, he didn't impose himself.

Paul Pogba 5/10

Barely influenced the match. He has obvious class and talent but he does not look interested at Old Trafford these days.

Arsenal

Bernd Leno 5/10

Saved the free-kick for the first, but didn't claim the slow ball across his box when he easily could have. Not much he could do about the second.

Hector Bellerin 7/10

Good going forward, and not really to blame for either goal. Showed his rage at the errors.

Sokratis 5/10

At some fault for Lingard's goal. Failed to take responsibility at the first ball, then just shrieks at Kolasinac to clear it. Not his best match overall, but he passed calmly.

Shkodran Mustafi 6/10

Good header for the first goal, defensively suspect in clinch moments, however.

Rob Holding 5/10

Should've cleared the ball in the box for the first goal. Substituted half an hour in for Stephan Lichsteiner, with an injury.

Sead Kolasinac 5/10

Bombed on up the left and did a lot going forward, but his miscontrol for United's second was awful. Truly terrible error and the goal was nearly entirely his fault.

Lucas Torreira 6/10

Got kicked about a bit, not as dominant as he was against Tottenham, but still an imposing midfield presence.

Matteo Guendouzi 9/10

A few poor controls early doors, but he recovered to produce an excellent performance. Controlled the pace and direction of play, constantly showed for it and looks to be progressing excellently.

Aaron Ramsey 5/10

Pretty quiet tonight. Fouled and put himself about a bit but was hooked at half time, having struggled to take attacks by the scruff. Hooked at half-time.

Alex Iwobi 5/10

A bit obscure at times, and has seen tentative to dribble at players lately. His crossing was dangerous though. Could've reacted quicker to the goal from the free kick.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 6/10

Lively, and stung David De Gea with a long range curler, but he didn't get into to areas where his shooting could make much of a difference. He drifted wide a lot and he's not as useful in those areas. His hold up play and dribbling are both excellent, though.

Stephan Lichtsteiner 6/10

Tried to bring some solidity and shithousery to the game, succeeded to a degree and was not at fault for the second goal.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 7/10

Replaced Ramsey at half-time, injected some incision down the right side and put in some good crosses. Scored a blinder of a disallowed volley from a zero-angle offside position.

Alexandre Lacazette 8/10

On for Iwobi at 65 minutes. Provided a goal shortly and was a threat for the remainder of the match.
