McCall Could Leave Doonhammers On A High

When Ian McCall joined his hometwon club Queen of the South as manager in November, it appeared that the Scottish Division One side were already headed for relegation after a disastrous start to their campaign.

McCall has helped to turn things around though, with the club having embarked on a 13-match unbeaten run in the league to steer them to safety, a run that was only ended when they went down 3:0 at promotion chasing St Johnstone last weekend.

McCall has sinced announced that he will be leaving the club after Saturday's game at home to Airdrie United, with a switch to Partick Thistle rumoured to be on the agenda. Although now safe from the drop, QOTS would surely like to say farewell to their boss by putting on a performance for him.

Airdrie United are currently in the relegation play-off position, although they are only ahead of Ross County on goal difference, so automatic relation is still a real possibility. The bookies have interpreted this as signalling that they will be far more up for the game on Saturday as a result, but that seems to overlook both recent form and the McCall factor.

The 11-5 available with Betdirect on the Queen of the South win is out of line with most other bookmakers now, many of whom have been busy trimming the price, and looks worth a punt.
