Premiership Predictions, Correct Score Weekend Football Tips for 24 ~ 25/10/09

Hello everyone & welcome to this weeks predictions. Last weekend I did well with 7 Correct Results out of ten & one correct score (Fulham - Hull). The only three results to let me down were Wigan - Manchester City (1-1) which I said would be a win for City, Aston Villa - Chelsea (2-1) which I said Chelsea would win & Everton - Wolves (1-1) which I said Everton would win.

My average in terms of Results has now gone up from 55% to 57.5% with last weeks Predictions. The average for Correct scores has stayed the same with an average of one in eight correct.

So yet again I wish everyone good luck as we head into winter with more football madness:-

Match 1: Birmingham - Sunderland: (Saturday 3pm):

Last Saturday Sunderland had a great result in beating Liverpool 1-0, a result I predicted. The goal should have not been given because of the ball being deflected into the net off a beach ball thrown on to the pitch by a young Liverpool fan (Ironic). The ref was unsure weather the goal should stand but allowed it to. The point was that Liverpool deserved to lose which is what Liverpool’s manager very gracefully admitted after the game & that it was just one of those things that happen every now & then. Sunderland drew their last away game at Manchester United & were only denied by a last minute goal in claiming a famous victory. Sunderland are unbeaten in three league games & are playing well as apposed to Birmingham who are not. Birmingham easily lost at Arsenal last time out & have now lost their last three on the bounce . Sunderland beat Birmingham 2-0 in the League cup last month as well, so with that in mind it is not hard to predict that Sunderland should win this game.

Result Prediction: Sunderland to Claim their second away win of the season.

Score Prediction: Birmingham 1 Sunderland 2

2. Burnley - Wigan Athletic: (Saturday 3pm):

Burnley as most people know have won all their league games at home & in so doing have beaten some big sides, I.e. Manchester United & Everton. Wigan meanwhile have not won away since their excellent opening day win at Aston Villa. They had an unexpected draw at home to Manchester City last Sunday but their last away game was a very disappointing defeat to Hull City. They have now lost four times on the bounce in away games including a 4-1 defeat to Championship Blackpool in the League cup. I really can’t see Wigan winning this so I am going to go for a home victory but it is with a certain amount of caution as Wigan beat Chelsea & lost to Hull when both results should have been the other way round. A home win for Burnley but it might be close.

Result Prediction: Burnley to win again at home.

Score Prediction: Burnley 2 Wigan 1

3. Chelsea - Blackburn Rovers: (Saturday 5.30pm)

This really is an easy fixture to predict. Chelsea may have lost their last two away games at Wigan & Aston Villa but they are still producing the goods at home. On Wednesday night they easily beat Atletico Madrid 4-0 after they had beat Liverpool 2-0 in their last League game at home. Chelsea have in fact won all seven home games this season (4 League & 3 Cup games). Blackburn meanwhile have not managed to win away in the league yet having lost all three including a 6-2 thumping at Arsenal in their last away game. They have however won both their league cup matches away including a good 1-0 away win at Nottingham Forest who are on a good run In the Championship at present. All these facts however point to a Chelsea home victory & an easy one at that.

Result Prediction: Chelsea to Extend their winning home form

Score Prediction: Chelsea 3 Blackburn 0

4. Hull City - Portsmouth: (Saturday 3pm):

This is a right old fashioned relegation match even if it is only late October. Four points is all that separates the sides and this will make it a close game. Hull lost 2-0 at Fulham on Monday night while Portsmouth lost rather unluckily to spurs at home on the Saturday. Both sides are not scoring enough goals or keeping them out at the other end. Hull managed to win their last home game 2-1 against Wigan while Portsmouth won their last away game at Wolves 1-0 (a game I predicted they would win). So you both sides bang out of form which in my mind means a good chance of a draw, a result that won’t do either side any good come the end of the season methinks. A dour game.

Result Prediction: A low scoring draw

Score Prediction: Hull City 1 Portsmouth 1

5. Spurs - Stoke City: (Saturday 3pm):

Spurs are playing well this season & stand an outside chance of getting into the top four. We will see. They have only lost twice this season & that was against Manchester United & Chelsea. Last week they won a very difficult game for them & their manager at Portsmouth despite having a player sent off. Stoke meanwhile are doing well in their second season up after their surprise promotion in 2008. Stoke drew at Everton last time out. They have yet ton win away this season but have drawn three out of four with draws at Birmingham & Bolton as well as the before mentioned draw at Everton. Stoke seem to keep it tight which is something they will need to do at Spurs who thrashed Burnley in their last home game 5-0. A tight victory for Spurs.

Result Prediction: Spurs to win a tight game

Score Prediction: Spurs 2 Stoke City 1

6. Wolves - Aston Villa: (Saturday 12.45pm):

A classic midlands derby but not as intense as a Wolves WBA derby game. Villa did really well last week to beat Chelsea 2-1 which followed their draw with Manchester City. They have only lost once in nine now and only two all season. They are making a concerted bid for a top four finish & with Liverpool’s decline they just might make it. Wolves as predicted are at the wrong end of the table but are at present two places above the relegation zone. This is mainly due to worse sides then them in the league. Last time out Wolves got a very useful point at Everton in a 1-1 draw which was maybe a game they should have won. In their last away game Villa lost at Blackburn to a very dodgy late penalty. Can’t see Wolves winning this one as unlike Blackburn Wolves try to play football & this will suit Villa. An away win to The Villains.

Result Prediction: Aston Villa to record their third away win.

Score Prediction: Wolves 0 Aston Villa 2

7. Bolton - Everton: (Sunday 1.30pm):

Bolton are slowly starting to improve. They held Spurs at home in their last game & narrowly lost at Manchester United last week (2-1). The defeat at Manchester United was their first in six (5 league & 1 League cup). Everton had a very bad result against Benfica on Thursday night losing 4-0. Will they bounce back. This was their first defeat in eight games but I still don’t think it will affect their attempts to qualify out of the group stages of the UEFA cup (I refuse to call it by it’s modern crap name). I think Everton will win this game because Bolton have mainly been picking up points from the teams around them in the table. A home defeat then & more pressure on Gary Megson.

Result Prediction: Everton to win a low scoring game

Score Prediction: Bolton 0 Everton 1

8. Liverpool - Manchester United: (Sunday 2pm):

Liverpool are in freefall after losing twice in a week to Sunderland & Lyon. They have now lost four games on the trot. I am not surprised as there managers tactics & lack of quality players is finally catching up with them. Gerrard went off injured after only 25 minutes on Tuesday when they were leading 1-0 & it was no surprise that they ended up losing 2-1 after he had left the field. Even if Gerrard & Torres are playing on Sunday I can’t see it making a difference as their confidence is low & to be honest they are not playing well. Manchester United meanwhile are not playing that well themselves (better than Liverpool though) but they are grinding out results. They deservedly won away in Europe in midweek after a close 2-1 home win against Bolton last weekend. A Manchester United win.

Result Prediction: An away win for Manchester United

Score Prediction: Liverpool 1 Manchester United 2

9. Manchester City - Fulham: (Sunday 3pm):

Fulham had a good win against Hull City on Monday night which they needed to take them away from the wrong end of the table. Fulham are having a mixed season but are still in the UEFA Cup & have won twice in the last couple of seasons at City. Manchester City have drawn their last two games away at Wigan & Aston Villa. They have only lost the one game so far this season & beat Fulham last month in the League cup 2-1 at home. Their home form is the key as they have won all their home games so far this season. Fulham’s away form is mixed with just the one away win (Portsmouth) & a draw in their last away game at West Ham but they have lost at Wolves & Aston Villa. I really can’t see Fulham winning this one especially after their game against Roma on Thursday night which I suspect will have taken some energy out of them. An easy home win for the blue half of Manchester.

Result Prediction: Manchester City to win easily

Score Prediction: Manchester City 3 Fulham 1

10. West Ham - Arsenal: (Sunday 4.15pm):

What a stupid time to have a football match. Anyway, onto the match. West Ham are on a bad run & need some wins fast to stop the slump. They have not won since the opening day & now find themselves in the bottom three. Not good. They lost at Stoke last Saturday & needed a last minute goal to get a draw against Fulham in their last home game. They managed an away point at Blackburn in their only other undefeated away game. Arsenal are bang on form in the League & are right up there with the leaders with a game in hand to boot as well, in fact they are only four points adrift of Manchester United in forth place. They are now eight games unbeaten since they lost at Manchester City in early September. An away win for Arsenal.

Result Prediction: Arsenal to win

Score Prediction: West Ham 1 Arsenal 3

That’s it for this week boys & girls. See you next week.
