Premiership Predictions, Correct Score Weekend Football Tips for 19th & 20th December 2009
A much better mid-week for me as I got 5 out of 8 results right & the added bonus of the Correct score for the Manchester United - Wolves game (3-0). I correctly guessed that Aston Villa would win at Sunderland, Manchester United would beat Wolves, Chelsea would Beat Portsmouth, Birmingham would beat Blackburn & Liverpool would beat Wigan. After last weekends amount of draws these were a good set of mid-week predictions. This keeps my average around 50% for the season on Predictions. Enough of the idle talk, let us commence with this weekends Fixtures…
Best Predicted result of the previous week: “Aston Villa beating Sunderland away”
See you all next week & good luck.
Match 1: Arsenal - Hull City: (Saturday 5.30pm):
Arsenal had a great win at Liverpool last Sunday & then could only draw at mid-table Burnley. This is the type of fixture that Arsenal or indeed any other team needs to win in order to win the title, mind you Manchester United lost at Burnley so maybe it wasn’t a bad result. With both Manchester United, Aston Villa & of course Chelsea winning Arsenal need to get back to winning ways. This game against Hull should therefore offer them a really good chance to do that. Especially as they are only above Aston Villa on Goal Difference. Hull didn’t play in the mid week fixtures and drew their last game 0-0 at home with Blackburn in a game I said would be low scoring. Hull lost their last away game 3-0 at in form Aston Villa. I really can’t see Hull getting anything from this game like they did last season in a 2-0 win. A home win for the gunners.
Result Prediction: Arsenal to win
Score Prediction: Arsenal 3 Hull City 1
Match 2: Aston Villa - Stoke City: (Saturday 3pm):
Aston Villa had a great 2-0 away win at Sunderland which was a very good result when you consider that both Liverpool & Arsenal have been beaten at Sunderland this season as well as the fact that Sunderland hadn’t lost at home since their opening fixture at home to Chelsea. The win at Sunderland followed hot on the hells of Villa’s excellent win at Manchester United on Saturday. Villa are now six games 7 games unbeaten as well as winning their last three league games. What chance Stoke on Saturday? Stoke drew at home with Wigan last sat in a game they twice had to come from behind in but that is a sign of the improvement they have made this season in comparison to last term. They lost their last away game 2-0 at Arsenal & I expect a similar result against them in this game.
Result Prediction: Aston Villa to win
Score Prediction: Aston Villa 2 Stoke 0
Match 3: Blackburn - Tottenham: (Saturday 3pm):
Spurs had a great result in midweek beating Manchester City 3-0 at home which was only City’s second defeat of the season. This was a vital result for Spurs as it got them back to winning ways after their surprise home defeat to Wolves the previous Saturday. Tottenham are now fifth just two points behind Aston Villa so you can see how important those the win against Manchester City was as they would have fallen further behind in the race for a champions League place. Blackburn meanwhile had a really thrill packed 0-0 draw at Hull on Saturday & then lost 2-1 at in form Birmingham on Tuesday. Blackburn’s home form is good & in their last game they held the not so mighty anymore Liverpool 0-0. I think Tottenham will sneak a result here as they should have won at Everton in their last away game but messed it up but this time I expect them to make sure.
Result Prediction: Spurs to sneak an away win
Score Prediction: Blackburn 1 Spurs 2
Match 4: Fulham - Manchester United: (Saturday 3pm):
Manchester United recovered from their defeat at home to Aston Villa last Saturday by beating Wolves, albeit, their reserve side 3-0. This game will be a big test for them as Fulham are having a good season and on Thursday qualified for the next round of the UEFA Cup by beating Basle away 3-2. They are unbeaten in their last 6 games & drew away at Burnley 1-1 on Saturday. In their previous home game they beat Sunderland 1-0. Manchester United have already lost 4 games so far this season which is not like them but hey we will make Fulham play you after they have only played away in Europe on the Thursday, they should be knackered from that game. They will only have 48 hours until they play you. Are you saying that the powers that be would make Manchester United play 48 hours after an away game in Europe? Of course not, that would imply that they are bent towards Manchester United.
Result Prediction: Manchester United to win
Score Prediction: Fulham 0 Manchester United 2
Match 5: Manchester City - Sunderland: (Saturday 3pm):
City had a bad defeat at Spurs in midweek which followed hot on the heels of their 3-3 draw against Bolton away. These dropped points mean they have now dropped to 8th in the table. They need to start winning again as they have only won once in ten league games. Sunderland meanwhile are on a mini bad run having lost at home to Aston Villa in midweek after they could only draw at home to Portsmouth the game before. They have now not won for four games since they beat Arsenal at home. Their away form is not good & it is only their home form that is keeping them in tenth place. Manchester City to get back to winning ways but don’t bet on a draw.
Result Prediction: Manchester City to win
Score prediction: Manchester City 3 Sunderland 0
Match 6: Portsmouth - Liverpool: (Saturday 12.45pm):
Liverpool managed to beat Wigan 2-1 on Wednesday (as I predicted) but they are still having a bad season. They lost at home to Arsenal on Sunday (again, as I predicted) for their second home defeat of the season & have now lost six games in the League as well as drawing to such teams as Birmingham & Blackburn. They are out of the Champions League & are basically in freefall. Great. Portsmouth meanwhile gained a useful point at Sunderland last Saturday & were rather unlucky to lose to a late penalty at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. They are now unbelievably only five points from safety despite a dreadful start to the season & are slowly beginning to show signs of recovery. They won their last home game 2-0 against Burnley & I have a feeling that they will catch Liverpool off guard as have a few other sides this season. Of course if they lose it won’t be the manager’s fault, anybody would think it was his side???
Result Prediction: Portsmouth to win
Score Prediction: Portsmouth 1 Liverpool 0
Match 7: Everton - Birmingham: (Sunday 3pm):
Birmingham are on a really good run, their gates are up & the fans seem a lot happier under the new owners. They beat Blackburn in Midweek (as I Predicted) after they had beat West Ham on the Saturday (again, I also Predicted this result). They are now unbeaten in 8 league games since they lost at Arsenal in mid October. They have won five on the bounce and are 7th in the table above Manchester City & a massive ten points ahead of Everton in 15th place. Everton on the other hand are having a bad season but they managed a very good 3-3 draw at Chelsea on Saturday after drawing 2-2 at home with Spurs which has stooped the rot a little. The fact still remains that Everton haven’t won since the end of September in the League when they won 1-0 at Portsmouth. A Birmingham win (just)
Result Prediction: A Birmingham win
Score Prediction: Everton 1 Birmingham 2
Match 8: West Ham - Chelsea: (Sunday 4pm):
Chelsea are on a bit of a wobble but they are still top thanks to a narrow home win over Portsmouth in midweek. They needed that victory as they had dropped two points at home to Everton last Saturday & the week before had lost 2-1 away at Manchester City. They are still top mainly because Manchester United lost at home to Aston Villa. West Ham are still in the relegation places having lost their last three games. They lost two away games on the spin at Birmingham & Bolton so they need to get points & fast if they are not to be left behind in the relegation struggle. West Ham’s last home game was a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United & I can see them getting beat today in this game.
Result Prediction: Away win for Chelsea
Score Prediction: West Ham 1 Chelsea 3
Match 9: Wolves - Burnley: (Sunday 1.30pm):
This is an important game for Wolves & to a lesser degree Burnley. Wolves manager Mick McCarthy played a reserve side against Manchester United in midweek as he wanted his full strength side available for this home game against Burnley, such is the importance of this fixture. Prior to their defeat at Old Trafford Wolves had won their last two games, beating Bolton at home & Spurs away. Burnley drew at home with Arsenal in Midweek, which was a good result after they had managed a draw again on Sat with Fulham As you will be aware Burnley’s away form is bad & they have only taken one pint away from home all season. In their last away fixture they lost as Portsmouth. A bad result. It is their home form that is keeping them so high in the table (for them). A nervy home win for Wolves.
Result Prediction: Wolves to win a tight game
Score Prediction: Wolves 2 Burnley 1
Match 10: Wigan - Bolton: (Monday 8pm):
As you all know Wigan are a very inconsistent side & they carried on belief with a 2-2 draw away at Stoke & then a 2-1 defeat at Liverpool. Considering they had lost 9-1 at Spurs in their previous away game this was a vast improvement. They have beaten Chelsea this season, have been the only side to win at Burnley & yet have got thrashed at Portsmouth 4-0. You work it out because I can’t. Bolton managed a good 3-3 draw with Manchester City last Saturday & then beat West Ham on Tuesday to record their first win since late October when they beat Everton. They have climbed out of the bottom three but only on goal difference. It is going to be a long hard season for Bolton I fear. Wigan could easily get caught up in the relegation battle if they are not to careful as well. A home win but a close game.
Result Prediction: Wigan to win
Score Prediction: Wigan 2 Bolton 1
That’s all until next weekend.
