Premiership Predictions, Correct Score Football Tips for 5th to 10th January 2010
Best Predicted result(s) of the FA Cup 3rd Round: “Arsenal beating West Ham away” & “Aston Villa beating Blackburn”
Hello again. I correctly guessed 11 out of 17 results in the FA Cup third round at the weekend & also got the correct score for Sunderland beating Barrow (3-0). My Correct Results were as follows: Spurs beating Peterborough, Manchester City beating Middlesbrough, Everton beating Carlisle, Bolton beating Lincoln, Aston Villa beating Blackburn, Sunderland beating Barrow, Fulham beating Swindon, Arsenal beating West Ham, Wolves beating Tranmere, Chelsea beating Watford & Stoke beating York City (my Club). I came close with Nottingham Forest as I said they would win 1-0 against Birmingham but they missed a penalty when the score was 0-0 half way through the second half & that was how the game finished. Liverpool could only draw away at Reading & those two draws might yet go in my favour when they are replayed. This, my first full attempt at the FA Cup gives me a 64.7 percentage success rate on correct results. Not bad & lets hope it continues. My average as you will all know for the Premiership is 51.7% for correct scores. This week I am starting my predictions a little earlier than usual as there is a Premiership game on Tuesday night (Tonight) & Tomorrow (Wednesday). Good luck for them & this weekends fixtures.
Match 1: Stoke City - Fulham: (Tuesday 7.45pm):
Stoke ended a bad run of results by beating York City in the FA Cup on Saturday 3-1. They had to come from behind though after York deservedly took a first half lead. This might well be the result to kick start Stoke’s recent run of results. They have gained only one point from their last five league games & have not scored in their last three. Fulham also had a Cup win at weekend against Swindon. The score would have been more than 1-0 if Fulham hadn’t have missed a second half penalty. Unlike Stoke, Fulham are on a good run of results & their defeat at Chelsea on Christmas Monday was their first defeat in seven Premiership games as well as two undefeated games in Europe which of course has helped them progress further in The UEFA Cup. A Close game but Stoke just edging a low scoring game.
Result Prediction: A Stoke to win
Score Prediction: Stoke 1 Fulham 0
Match 2: Arsenal - Bolton: (Tuesday 8pm):
Arsenal came from behind to beat West Ham away on Sunday which was a good result for them as at one point it looked like they were going to go out at the third round for the first time in many years. Arsenal are now unbeaten in their last six league game, winning five & drawing just the one since they lost at home to Chelsea in November. If they win this game against Bolton as I expect them to do then they will jump above Manchester United to second in the table & only one point behind leaders Chelsea. They will have also played the same number of games as Manchester United but one less than Chelsea. Basically, they are right in the title race & will be even more so if they win this game. If they hadn’t have been cheated at Old Trafford my the Referee they would be top. Bolton sacked their manager prior to their FA Cup win against Lincoln which they won 4-0 (I predicted 4-1). I can’t really see Bolton Getting anything out of this game even if they do have Owen Coyle in charge before kick off. Three points to the Gunners & another nail in Bolton’s chances of staying up.
Result Prediction: Arsenal to win easily
Score Prediction: Arsenal 4 Bolton 0
Match 3: Arsenal - Everton: (Saturday 9th January 3pm):
By some bizarre twist of the football calendar I am predicting another Arsenal game without knowing the result of their midweek game against Bolton. As I believe that Arsenal will beat Bolton I will therefore presume that that is how they will go into this game against Everton, I.E., second in the table behind Chelsea by a point. Everton picked up a win at last against Burnley in their last League game (2-0) as I Predicted and followed that up with a 3-1 against Carlisle in the Cup. Everton’s mini revival in the league of five unbeaten games now means that they have climbed to 11th in the table but still only four points off the relegation places. Everton have drawn their last two away games at Sunderland & Chelsea but I think their little run is about to come to an end at Arsenal but I think they may give Arsenal the odd scare or two before losing.
Result Prediction: Arsenal to win (again)
Score Prediction: Arsenal 3 Everton 1
Match 4: Birmingham - Manchester United: (Saturday 9th January 5.30pm):
Birmingham are on a great run, they won at Stoke 1-0 in their last league game which keeps them in 8th just four points behind Manchester City in 5th place. They are still in the cup having survived a tough game away at in form Nottingham Forest. Can they keep their unbeaten league run going against Manchester United? Birmingham are now unbeaten in 11 Premiership games since they lost at Arsenal in October. Manchester United meanwhile had a dreadful result in the FA Cup going out to Leeds United 1-0 at home. Ha, ha. Manchester United have now lost five league games already this season not to mention their FA Cup defeat to Leeds & at Home in the Champions League to Besiktas of Turkey. In fact if Wolves & Wigan had not played reserve sides against them they might not even be 2nd in the table. United are beginning to crumble & I hope it continues. A shock 1-0 win for the Blues who will not field a weakened side methinks.
Result Prediction: Birmingham to win
Score Prediction: Birmingham 1 Manchester United 0
Match 5: Burnley - Stoke: (Saturday 9th January 3pm):
Burnley look like losing their manager Owen Coyle to Bolton. This seems a bit bizarre to me because Burnley haven’t won in the League since they beat Hull on October 31st. Admittedly they have had some good draws in that time with Arsenal & Aston Villa but the fact remains that they are sliding down the table. I still think they will slide into one of the relegation places by the end of the season. They have only lost once at home this season (Wigan 1-3) but I think they will lose their second game of the season at home to Stoke on Saturday who will be in an upbeat mood after beating Fulham on Tuesday night. It also won’t help Burnley that they will almost certainly have lost their manager by the time this game takes place. An away win for the Stokies.
Result Prediction: Stoke to win
Score prediction: Burnley 0 Stoke 2
Match 6: Fulham - Portsmouth: (Saturday January 9th 3pm):
Fulham are going well this season & despite my prediction of them losing at Stoke on Tuesday Night I expect them to bounce back against bottom club Portsmouth. Portsmouth look doomed & to prove the point they could only draw at home 1-1 with Lowly Championship side Coventry City in The FA Cup on Saturday. I still think they will lose the replay which will back up my prediction of them losing to Coventry in the 1st place. Really can’t see Portsmouth getting anything out of this season let alone this game so a Home victory. Must point out that the tossers who are running Portsmouth football club really don’t know what they are doing & it seems a bit odd that Harry Rednap left just before they started getting in a financial mess?
Result Prediction: Fulham to win
Score Prediction: Fulham 2 Portsmouth 0
Match 7: Hull - Chelsea: (Saturday January 9th 12.45pm):
Chelsea won in the FA Cup against Watford as I predicted. Not one of my harder predictions methinks. If arsenal win on Wednesday night then their lead at the top will be reduced to just the one point. This is down to Arsenal’s improved & Chelsea’s indifferent form. They beat Fulham in their last Premiership game 2-1 but they had only won 1 of their previous five games, drawing three & losing at Manchester City. This has allowed Arsenal back into the Title race. Hull meanwhile are in freefall again & they took their recent league form into the FA Cup by losing 4-1 at Wigan. A Very bad result indeed. They have now not one in six league games even though they have managed a couple of draws. Last time out in the League they lost at home to Manchester United 3-1. I expect a similar result in this game.
Result Prediction: Chelsea to win
Score Prediction: Hull 1 Chelsea 3
Match 8: Sunderland - Bolton: (Saturday January 9th 3pm):
Sunderland got back to winning ways with an easy 3-0 win against Barrow in the FA Cup (as I predicted). They now face a Bolton side who are manager less after the sacking of Gary Megson (I Play very Negative football wherever I go). Owen Coyle should be in place for this game but I don’t think he will make an immediate impression in terms of results & I think they will still be in the relegation places come the end of this game. Bolton only managed a 2-2 draw with hull in their last game despite being 2-0 up which may explain why Gary Megson was sacked. The question I have to ask is why the hell was he appointed in the first place but then that would have been the sensible thing to do ask that question? A home win for the Black cats
Result Prediction: Sunderland to win
Score Prediction: Sunderland 3 Bolton 1
Match 9: Wigan - Aston Villa: (Saturday January 9th 3pm):
Aston Villa returned to winning ways by beating Blackburn at home in the FA Cup after losing their previous two League games. They have now dropped to sixth because of those two defeats. Their League cup semi final 1st leg with Blackburn was cancelled in the week so they will have enjoyed the rest I suspect. Villa need to get back to winning ways & what better side to play bar hull so that they can hope to get three points. Wigan are only just above the relegation places & in their last League game lost 5-0 at Manchester United though to be fait it was their reserve side. That their manager played a reserve side in the first place is a disgrace but I don’t have enough time to discuss that point here. I think Villa will bounce back to form with a win & send Wigan to their sixth defeat in ten League games. Serves them right for fielding a reserve side against Manchester United.
Result Prediction: Aston Villa to win
Score Prediction: Wigan 1 Aston Villa 2
Match 10: Liverpool - Tottenham: (Sunday January 10th 4pm):
Spurs are having a good season & they progressed to the next round of the FA Cup after beating Peterborough easily at Home 4-0 on Saturday. They are now in forth place in the table after winning three out of their last four League games & drawing the other 0-0 at Fulham. Interestingly they haven’t conceded a goal in this spell either. They now take on a Liverpool side who have picked up a little but are still having a crap season. They could only draw 1-1 at lowly Reading in the FA Cup who of course play in the Championship & are in danger of being relegated for the second time in three seasons. Liverpool didn’t even have the excuse of playing an under strength side. Liverpool have managed to win their last two League games after losing for the 7th time of the season at Portsmouth. They are now eight points behind arsenal in third place which will probably turn to 11 points after Arsenal beat Bolton on Wednesday night. Basically they are buggered in terms of the title. I think Tottenham will do what Arsenal did some weeks ago & win this fixture.
Result Prediction: Spurs to win
Score Prediction: Liverpool 1 Spurs 2
Match 11: West Ham - Wolves: (Sunday January 10th 1.30pm):
West ham lost at home to Arsenal in the cup last Sunday despite leading 1-0 at Half time. Arsenal just simply overwhelmed them in the second half, especially the last twenty minutes. Now they have a long hard battle against relegation to look forward to. What fun. Personally I think they will just survive because there is simply worse sides than them in the league this season One of them play in this fixture, I.e., Wolves. On the opening day of the season West Ham won 2-0 at Wolves. A similar result today would go a long way to helping them beat the drop. West ham Lost at Spurs in their last League game while Wolves won 1-0 at Tranmere in the cup after they had been beat 3-0 at home by Manchester City. Wolves might also stay up this season as well simply because Bolton, Hull, Burnley & Portsmouth are worse than them (so far). A home win for the hammers to cheer them up after their cup defeat’
Result Prediction: West Ham to win
Score Prediction: West Ham 2 Wolves 0
Match 12: Manchester City - Blackburn Rovers: (Monday January 11th 8pm):
Manchester City have now won four on the bounce, three in the League & their latest game, the FA Cup win at Fallen Championship side Middlesbrough. They beat Both Stoke at home & Wolves away over the Holiday period which means they are now 5th in the table just two points behind 4th place Tottenham. It is turning out to be a right battle for forth place this season with Liverpool’s demise. City’s League cup semi final 1st leg was postponed Like Aston Villa’s in the week which was a shame for them as they would have liked to have played United after they had just lost to Leeds in the FA Cup. Blackburn also had their semi final postponed. They lost at Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday & I am afraid I can see them losing this game & easily as well. A Home win.
Result Prediction: Manchester City to win
Score Prediction: Manchester City 3 Blackburn 0
That’s until next week. Good luck.
