Make Some Money As The NBA Hits the Stretch Run

The end of the NBA (National Basketball Association) season signals several important betting situations that are quite profitable. As this article will show, the author will describe the situations that will make the end of the NBA season a profitable one.

Revenge. A strong angle that has proven to be a money maker in the past few years is backing teams that are seeking double or triple revenge, especially if they are seeking / jockeying for playoff positioning. Such teams will be desperate for a win, and as such, will be highly motivated to win and cover their game. This angle is strengthened if the opposition will be disinterested in the matchup (already locked in playoff spot, looking ahead for the next game, et cetera).

Avoid Complacent Teams. The author highly recommends not playing on or against teams that have nothing to play for in the off season. Most often, such teams are hard to gauge: some are playing poorly (lobbying for the lottery pick/going through the motions) but some are playing well (build some positive vibes for next season). Therefore, it is not wise to play on such teams (either for or against).

Resting of Players. Play against teams who are resting their players for the playoffs. This angle only really works at the tail end of the season, when coaches rest their players (generally the last 3 games of the season but is at the coaches discretion). Although the oddsmakers account for this, such teams still will not try and play their hardest and cover their games, for the mere fact of reserving energy for the playoffs. Be wary of teams that are seeking revenge though. Such teams will still play to their potential if given the right conditions.

Playoff Bubble. Play on teams that are on the bubble for playoff contention if the condition calls for it. For example, if a team is in the 7th, 8th, or 9th seed, such teams will bring on their A game into the very last game of the season. If a situation warrants a play, for example revenge, back-to-back games for the opposition, then such teams will cover their games.

Line Movement. Play particular attention to who the public is betting on. If the general public is all over Team A, you should consider Team B. This is because the odds are shifted against you. A basketball betting odds comparison site can help you figure this out. There is a difference between the general public and the wise handicapper. The wise handicapper probably already decided that Team B was their coach. Case in point, the Pistons first championship against the Lakers. Everybody said the Lakers were shoe-ins to win the championship. And as the Pistons won each game, the Laker-faithful kept backing the loser team.

Experience in the Playoffs. One angle in sports betting that is mostly underrated is the experience of a team in the playoffs. This angle applies across the board through the major sports of football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. It also applies to both the college and professional levels.

Coaches in the Playoffs. In detail, one can look at the coaching staff, especially the coach him(her)self. Since the coach is the one who can direct and determine specific plays during crucial points of the game, a knowledgeable and veteran coach will almost always outshine a newbie coach. A great example of this is Phil Jackson of the Los Angeles Lakers. Jackson’s deep knowledge of the game has given him the opportunity to mold almost any team (at various levels of skill) into championship-caliber teams. His knowledge is so immense and varied that he can and will out coach an unsuspecting team.

Players in the Playoffs. The players themselves have to be examined to see if they qualify to be an ‘experienced’ team. In the college level, where players leave after graduation or get drafted into the pros, analyzing the returnees can prove profitable. Imagine a team filled with freshmen compared to another filled with veteran seniors. The latter will almost always outplay and out experience the prior. In professional sports, this disparity is not as great, but should still be considered. Take for example the perennial powerhouses of the San Antonio Spurs and the Detroit Pistons. For the last couple of years, these teams have consistently made the playoffs and gone deep every year. It is mostly based on the veteran leadership that such teams enjoy that make their success a reality. A team filled with 1st and 2nd year players will not have the ability to make crucial plays and decisions when things get tight, and as such will not advance deep into the playoffs.

In all, one has to look at experience when determining which side is the best side. One must look at the experience of the coaching staff, and the coach himself (or herself). Since coaching is big part of the game, analyzing the history of the coaches of a team is crucial to success.

The end of the NBA season is a great time to make some serious money, if done properly and wisely.
