Newcastle United have a terrible record at Old Trafford as it is, so given the lack of quality in their defence combined with a number of injuries and suspensions to further weaken their hand, it isn't difficult to see why Manchester United are hot favourites to see off the Geordies this afternoon. Wayne Rooney has had a very indifferent start to the season, but this looks an ideal opportunity for him to get among the goals, with the already suspect visting defence now shorn of the likes of Shay Given (injured), Titus Bramble and Celestine Babayaro (both suspended). Further forward, they will also be missing the on-loan Giuseppe Rossi against his parent club. The Newcastle midfield is sound enough, but they willhave their hands full in dealing with the width provided by Cristiano Ronaldo and Kieran Richardson, which could enable the likes of Rooney and Paul Scholes to benefit.
Manchester United should certainly win this game and it looks like one that they will do so with a bit to spare. The 101-100 at VCBet for Manchester United at -1.5 on the Asian Handicap looks a decent punt, ensuring any victory by a two-goal margin or more for Sir Alex Ferguson's team will deliver the goods.
