Take Legend to come Good
Written by Nick Luck on Tuesday, 13 May 2008We are going around the country today, the racing does not inspire, but we can’t have good quality racing every day of the week.
Violent Velocity in the 3.00pm at Yarmouth is from a stable in great form, they gave us a winner yesterday, and we are hoping for the same.
Hereford Boy, 3:20 Southwell, showed great pace at Folkestone last time and I think this is a weaker race.
And finally we go for Oakfield Legend, 7:40 Newton Abbot. He is making his fourth consecutive appearance on this slot, he’s yet to win for us and I feel he can get a win for us tonight.
Wells retired - He’s the most prolific stallion Europe has ever seen and it is a sad day. He has informed a generation and I guess he still will through his sons and daughters, but he was a very good racecourse in his own right. But his impact at stud has been enormous and he is the stone on which the recent success of Coolmore has been founded.
He has an extraordinary record, 104 Group One winners, over 30 Classic winners throughout Europe and it is an incredible record. He still covered 63 mares last year at the age of 25, but they have taken the sensible decision to retire him.
York cracker I have had a look at the declarations and there is some tremendous racing. The Musidora Stakes features all the leading fancies for the Oaks and if we get an emphatic winner, it will propel her to the front of the market. The Duke of York Sprint features two of the best miler-turned sprinters last season in Haatef and US Ranger. US Ranger is potentially a very classy horse for Aidan O’Brien.
