Football Bet Coca-Cola League Championship:

Southampton v Colchester k.o. March 16 Friday 19.45

Saints Should March Back Into Play-off Picture
With just a solitary point from their last three matches, Southampton's Championship promotion ambitions have taken a major hit over the past couple of weeks.

Friday night really should see them getting back on track though, when Colchester United are the visitors to the St.Mary's Stadium. Colchester have already surpassed all expectations this season in securing their Championship status and their form seems to be deserting them now than they edged past the 50-point mark that is deemed to ensure safety. Their last six matches has resulted in just two points and two goals scored, with the players already seemingly contemplating on their summer holidays.

In addition, Colchester's success this term has been built around their excellent home record at Layer Road. On their travels they are prone to conceding plenty of goals, which doesn't bode well against a Saints squad consisting of the likes of Grzegorz Rasiak, Marek Saganowski and Kenwyne Jones, let alone the free-kick guile of the much sought-after Gareth Bale.

Although it is taking a bit of a chance given their current lack of confidence, it does look worth backing Southampton on the Asian Handicap in this one, with Stan James offering 85-100 for Southampton -0.5, -1. That means that Southampton would need to win by at least a two-goal margin for a full winning bet, but that you would still win half your stake multiplied by the price, with half your stake returned should they only prevail by a one goal margin.
