Barnsley Relegation
Coca-Cola League ChampionshipBarnsley Look A Fair Bet For The Drop
It's very tight at the foot of the Championship table as we enter the last four rounds of matches, but this weekend could go someway to sorting things out.
To begin with, troubled Luton Town could be as good as down should they fail to secure maximum points at home to Plymouth Argyle, while Leeds United's survival hopes will diminish considerably were they to fail to beat Burnley.
The one really key game at the foot of the table is between next-to-bottom Southend United and fourth-from-bottom Barnsley. The Yorkshire side are currently a generous looking 11-10 to go down with BetFred and that is a price that will drop considerably should they lose on the Essex coast, particularly if Leeds are also victorious.
Barnsley remaining fixtures look relatively benign on paper, with home matches with Crystal Palace and Leicester City to come, followed by a trip to a West Bromwich Albion side on the last day of the season, by which time the Baggies are already likely to have been consigned to the play-offs. Defeat at Southend though and the pressure will mount and given that Barnsley have conceded 76 league goals already this term, it would be difficult to have much confidence in them.
With everything to play for, BetFred's 11-10 on Barnsley to be relegated looks a big price at this stage of the season.
