FA Cup Third Round Premiership Predictions
FA Cup Third Round Premiership Predictions, Correct Score Football Tips for 02nd ~ 3rd Jan 2010
Best Predicted results(s) for Monday December 28th:
Everton beating Burnley (Correct score) & Chelsea beating Fulham (Correct score).
Hello everyone. Did you all have a nice xmas & new year. Good. I did well on the results on Monday by correctly predicting six results that included Chelsea beating Fulham, Everton beating Burnley, Manchester City beating Wolves, Arsenal beating Portsmouth, Manchester United beating Wigan (Very hard that one) & Spurs beating West Ham. As mentioned above I correctly got the correct score in two games, i.e., Everton - Burnley & Chelsea - Fulham. So a good end to the year & the first half of the season.
As we are now halfway through the season I thought it would be a good time to take stock of my performance so far in terms of Predicting results & Scores.
out of 168 games I have Predicted in the Premiership this season so far I have Correctly predicted 87 correct. That gives me a 51.7% success rate.
I have also correctly predicted 12 Correct scores which gives me a much lower rate obviously because it is much harder as we all know.
My average of 51% I feel is pretty good for predicting football Matches. Enough of the self ego crap. Onto the third round of the FA Cup which I suspect will be a tad more difficult to predict then Premiership games.
Middle aged & grumpy football fan....
Match 1: Aston Villa - Blackburn Rovers: (Saturday January 2nd: 3pm):
Aston Villa had a bad Holiday period losing both their games to Arsenal away & Liverpool 1-0 at home. Admittedly they were a bit unlucky in losing to Liverpool as they scored their winner in the 94th minute. They will need to bounce back quickly. This will be the second time that Villa have faced Blackburn this season as they lost 2-1 at Blackburn earlier in the season, they also are due to face Blackburn in a two legged League cup semi final not to mention the home game in the League. Both teams should be completely fed up with each other by the end of the season. Blackburn drew at home with Sunderland on Monday but their away form is pretty crap compared to their home record. A home victory for the Villa.
Match Prediction: Aston Villa to win
Score Prediction: Aston Villa 2 Blackburn 1
Match 2: Bolton - Lincoln City: (Saturday January 2nd: 3pm):
Bolton have just sacked their manager Gary Megson after only drawing at home with Hull on Tuesday night 2-2. This was a very disappointing result for Bolton as they were 2-0 ahead half way through the second half. They are obviously still in the relegation zone after this result. They now have the distraction of the FA cup & what looks like an easy tie with Lincoln City who are in the wrong half of the table in the 2nd Division, in fact they are just five points ahead of Grimsby who are in the relegation zone. A No brainier this despite what side Bolton will put out.
Match Prediction: Bolton to win easily
Score Prediction: Bolton 4 Lincoln 1
Match 3: Everton - Carlisle: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
Everton got their first win in some time by beating Burnley 2-0 at home on Monday (as I predicted). They now face a Carlisle team who are unbeaten in seven games. In their last game they drew 0-0 away at Tranmere. A similar result on Saturday would be a great result for them though to be honest I can't see it no matter what side Everton put out. Carlisle will be up for this but Everton I think have turned the corner & therefore I am predicting an Everton Home win no matter what side they also put out.
Match Prediction: Everton to win
Score Prediction: Everton 3 Carlisle 0
Match 4: Fulham - Swindon: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
Both Clubs are having good seasons. Swindon have lost only one of their last 11 games which has taken them into a playoff place in the table (6th) while Fulham lost their first game in nine at Chelsea on Monday but are a very healthy ninth in the Premiership. This should be an interesting game but I think Fulham will just shade it. Fulham are also still in Europe so they are having a very good season (so Far). What disappoints me is that Fulham will probably play a weakened side which in my mind devalues the Cup. Such is progress.
Match Prediction: Fulham to win
Score Prediction: Fulham 3 Swindon 1
Match 5: Middlesbrough - Manchester City: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
Middlesbrough as everyone knows were relegated last season and to be honest don’t look like coming back this season unless they offer a late charge towards the playoff places. At present they are stuck in mid table after losing their last game 2-1 at Barnsley. They have only won two games under Gordon Strachan & the Barnsley defeat was their sixth defeat in ten games. So much for a new manager making a difference. Manchester City meanwhile won at Wolves 3-0 which was their third win on the bounce & has moved them back into contention for a Champions League place. They are in the Semi Finals of the League cup as well & face a two legged semi with Manchester United. They should win this game easily. Maybe after a replay.
Match Prediction: Manchester City to win
Score Prediction: Middlesbrough 1 Manchester City 3
Match 6: Nottingham Forest - Birmingham City: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
Another game where both sides are in good form. Nottingham Forest beat Coventry 2-0 on Monday to take their unbeaten record in the Championship to 16 games. Unsurprisingly, they are third in the table only two points of West Brom in the last automatic promotion place. This is good going for a side that nearly got relegated last season. Birmingham did get promoted out of the Championship last season and after a shaky start are riding high in 8th place after an unbeaten run of 11 games that goes back to October. If Birmingham play a weakened side then I think they could get beat but I am still going to go for a shock Home win for the reds which will hopefully put a smile on Brian Clough from his seat in heaven.
Match Prediction: Notts Forest to win
Score Prediction: Nottingham Forest 2 Birmingham 1
Match 7: Reading - Liverpool: (Saturday January 2nd 5.15pm):
Liverpool you think would have enough to beat lowly Reading of the Championship? If this was at Anfield I would be inclined to say yes but this is away. Admittedly reading are having a bad season & are just two points off the relegation places. They have only won 5 games all season & are looking like they might go down for the second time in three years after spending two seasons in the premiership. Last time they played Liverpool they beat them 3-1 in a Premiership fixture (the season they went down). Can History repeat it self & Liverpool have more misery placed on their massive part time support? It would be nice but I don’t think so.
Match Prediction: Liverpool to win
Score Prediction: Reading 1 Liverpool 3
Match 8: Stoke City - York City: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
Stoke had a bad holiday period losing both their games to Manchester City & at home to Birmingham 1-0 on Monday. They have now gone six games without a win & have slipped to 12th in the Premiership & bizarrely only three points off the relegation places, such is the closeness of the table this season. York City are renowned cup fighters & have a long & wonderful history in the FA Cup & are arguably one of the greatest small club Giant killing clubs of all time. After a couple of bad seasons in the Conference York are having a good season & hoping to return to the Football League where they belong. They are unbeaten in their last 11 games having won 10 of them. They knocked out Crewe in the first round for a small giant Killing act & then beat Cambridge away in the second which was a good result as well but no giant killing as Cambridge are in the same division. York City are Third in the table & snapping on the heels of Stevenage & Oxford in the league. Will they add Stoke to their list of victims in cup shocks? I don’t think so but they should hopefully make a good account of themselves.
Match Prediction: Stoke to win
Score Prediction: Stoke 2 York 0
Match 9: Sunderland - Barrow: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
Can’t really see barrow getting a win here but they will take a few fans to this game as it is not too far for them. Sunderland managed a good 2-2 draw at Blackburn on Monday after drawing at home with Everton on boxing day. The draw at Blackburn ended a bad run of results away for them. Can’t really see barrow getting anything from this game as they are in the wrong half of the conference table but admittedly having a slightly better season than last when they nearly went down. Their best result this season was knocking out runaway leaders Oxford in the second round after a replay. An easy win for Sunderland.
Match Prediction: Sunderland to win
Score Prediction: Sunderland 3 Barrow 0
Match 10: Tottenham - Peterborough: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
Tottenham had an excellent holiday period beating West Ham & away at In form Fulham 0-0. They are now forth in the table due to Aston Villa losing both their games over the same period. A much improved season for Spurs on last term & they must be one of the outside favourites to lift the FA Cup. Peterborough in complete contrast are bottom of the Championship after getting promoted last term. They have changed their manager in an attempt to turn the slide & there are signs it is beginning to work. They beat Watford on the last Saturday before xmas & in their last game came from 4-0 down at half time to draw 4-4 with Cardiff. A great result. Still think they will get beat at Spurs though. A shame.
Match Prediction: Spurs to win
Score Prediction: Spurs 3 Peterborough 1
Match 11: Wigan - Hull City: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
In the second all premiership tie of the day we have two struggling sides at the wrong end of the table. Wigan like Wolves before them made wholesale changes before their game at Old Trafford on Tuesday night & got beat 5-0. This is disgraceful. This game should be replayed with Wigan playing with a full strength side. Manchester United have now gained six points. I someone bribing these clubs? I bet Wigan & Wolves don’t play reserve sides against Chelsea & Wigan away & I also bet you that the FA does fuck all about it as well as it involves Manchester United & anything that benefits them is ok? Oh, I forgot, I think Hull will win because they seem to be trying a lot more then Wigan’s overpaid players.
Match Prediction: Hull to win
Score Prediction: Wigan 1 Hull 2
Match 12: MK Dons - Burnley: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
Burnley haven’t won since they beat Hull City at Home at the end of October. They are slipping down the table as a consequence, mainly because of their very bad away form. They have managed only one point on their travels & to be honest I can see them losing this game despite the MK Dons going through a bad patch themselves. To some degree the Dons (They are not Wimbledon) might have turned the corner as they beat Stockport in their last home game but they have lost six out of their last 11 games. A shock home win for Paul Ince’s men.
Match Prediction: MK Dons to win
Score Prediction: MK Dons 2 Burnley 1
Match 13: Portsmouth - Coventry: (Saturday January 2nd 3pm):
After losing at Home to Arsenal 4-1 on Tuesday Portsmouth are beginning to look like they are doomed to relegation this season. They are bottom, as they have been all season and are in massive financial trouble. As per usual it is the fans who are going to suffer & Pick up the pieces. Coventry are just below mid table after losing at Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Monday. This ended a run of three straight wins for the sky blues. I think that Portsmouth’s morale is so low that would lose to themselves if they could at present. An away win.
Match Prediction: Coventry to win
Score Prediction: Portsmouth 1 Coventry 2
Match 14: Chelsea - Watford: (Sunday January 3rd 3pm):
Chelsea got back to winning ways on Monday when they came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 (Just as I Predicted). This got them back to winning ways after they had drawn a couple of games. They are now still top of the table but only by two points ahead of Manchester United & Four ahead of Arsenal. Watford despite their financial problems are having a good season and are just outside the playoff places even though their form has dipped a little bit in the last couple of weeks. They drew away at Bristol city in their last game with a 94th minute goal. More of the same would be a miracle this time out. They won’t. Chelsea home win for the holders.
Match Prediction: Chelsea to win
Score Prediction: Chelsea 3 Watford 0
Match 15: Manchester United - Leeds United: (Sunday January 3rd 1pm):
Leeds look like getting out of the 1st division this season (at last) after two years of failure. The fact that they are even in this division is a joke in the 1st place. They are top of the tree having lost only one game all season (Millwall). Manchester United won again on Monday beating Wigan’s reserves 5-0 to close the gap to two points behind Chelsea. United are not playing that well this season & it could still end trophy less for them despite the best efforts of the FA etc, etc. Big surprise this game is on TV. Yeah. A home win for the Scum.
Match Prediction: Manchester United to win
Score Prediction: Manchester United 3 Leeds 1
Match 16: Tranmere - Wolves: (Sunday January 3rd 6.15pm):
Wolves are just ahead of the relegation places. They lost at home to Manchester City in their last game 3-0 after losing 2-0 at Liverpool in their other holiday game. I think Wolves will stay up & are on course to do so as they are getting enough points off the other teams around them in the table. Tranmere are at the wrong end of League 1 (Division 3 to me) but after getting rid of John Barnes as manager are slowly showing signs that they will get out of trouble. They are now unbeaten in their last four home games, winning three of them as well as gaining a great point at high flying Huddersfield in a 3-3 draw. So, they are improving. I think Mick McCarthy will put out a reserve side & Tranmere will still lose.
Match Prediction: Wolves to win
Score Prediction: Tranmere 0 Wolves 2
Match 17: West Ham - Arsenal: (Sunday January 3rd 4.15pm):
Arsenal are in good form & West Ham are not. As simple as that really. Arsenal are now only four points behind leaders Chelsea after winning both holiday games against Aston Villa 3-0 & Portsmouth 4-1 away. West Ham are in a relegation scrap & they helped their chances of avoiding the drop by beating Portsmouth 2-0 but they lost their next & last game 2-0 at Spurs which means they are 17th in the table just outside the relegation places on goal difference. In the league game earlier in the season West Ham were given a lucky penalty which helped them to salvage a 2-2 draw after they had been 2-0 down in the second half. Arsenal will be looking for revenge & I think they will get it.
Match Prediction: Arsenal to win
Score Prediction: West Ham 1 Arsenal 3
That’s all until the forth round in a few weeks time & I will see you all as well for next weeks Premiership games. Good Luck.
