Champions League

Which Premier League Battlers will Seal the Deal in Europe?

With four of the eight teams in the quarter-finals of the Champions League hailing from British shores, the Premier League has proved this year that it is one of the most exciting and powerful elite football competitions in the world.

The fairytale cannot last forever, however, as at least one of the sides that plies its trade on English soil will be dumped out of the Champions League tonight.

Either Liverpool or Arsenal are guaranteed to be saying goodbye to their European ambitions this evening and Liverpool (11/8) are favourites to go through in style by winning the game at Anfield, with a win for the Gunners priced at 9/4 and a draw at 2/1. One thing that is clear ahead of the game is that Arsene Wenger's men will have to put their famed attacking prowess to good use and score at least once, as Liverpool's away goal means a 0-0 draw would be enough to put the Reds through.

It is Liverpool's hotshot Fernando Torres (9/2) who is favourite to hit the back of the net first, however, followed by Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie (both 6/1). Fan favourite Steven Gerrard is 7/1 to spark chaos in the Kop by bagging the game's first goal, while Arsenal's own midfield dynamo Cesc Fabregas is a 10/1 shot.

While these two giants of Premier League football are battling away in the north-west, Chelsea will be at Stamford Bridge looking to work off a 2-1 deficit following the first leg of their quarter-final against Fenerbahce. The Blues are favourites to win tonight's game at 2/7, with a draw at 4/1 and a victory for Fenerbahce 11/1.

Like Arsenal, the Blues know that they must score to be in with a chance of progressing to the semi-final. Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are joint 7/2 favourites to get their side off to a perfect start by scoring the game's first goal, with Andriy Shevchenko a 9/2 bet and Frank Lampard at 5/1. Former Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman will be part of the visiting Fenerbahce side and he is a 12/1 bet to spoil his former employers' night by scoring first.

The final Premier League team looking to secure their place in the Champions League final is the side that, prior to the deciding quarter-final matches, was a 7/4 favourite to win the competition – Manchester United. The Red Devils took a 2-0 lead from their game against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico and they are 8/15 favourites to compound the Italian side's misery by winning at Old Trafford. A victory for Roma is a 9/2 bet, while a draw is at 5/2.

Cristiano Ronaldo (3/1) has found it physically impossible to stop scoring recently and he leads the betting to score first on Wednesday evening, while Wayne Rooney (4/1), Carlos Tevez and Louis Saha (both 5/1) will also be hungry to improve their scoring records. Mirko Vucinic (12/1) appears Roma's best bet to get his team off to a good start in Manchester.

It is sure to be an exciting week of European football but supporters can give themselves even more to cheer about with some specials bets. Fans may fancy a punt on any English team to win the Champions League at 2/7, Manchester United to do the double at 2/1 or two Premier League sides to make the Champions League semi-finals at 7/4.
