Benfica, victors over both Manchester United and Liverpool in last season's Champions League, are on the verge of a premature exit from the competition unless they beat Celtic this evening.By contrast, Celtic are having a cracking season, having already opened up a 10-point gap at the top of the SPL and having won two of their opening three group games in the Champions League, including a 3:0 win over Benfica last time out.
However, Celtic have never won an away match in the Champions League in 10 attempts and with Thomas Gravesen and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink both ruled out for Gordon Strachan's side, they may struggle to end that run in the Stadium of Light - venue of the club's most famous day, in winning the European Cup in 1967.
There is enough quality in the Benfica ranks in the likes of Simao Sabrosa and Fabrizio Miccoli to enable them to keep their slender qualification hopes alive, with the 19-20 available with bet365 on the home win looking decent value.
