The new Mexican league season kicks-off this weekend, with Club America again among the pre-season favourites for the title.
They start their campaign with a game at home to San Luis, a club with close links to America with both coming under the Televisa umbrella. That is where the similarities end though, with San Luis being a far smaller club and one who go into Clausura 2007 with their primary aim being to avoid relegation.
San Luis were in serious danger of relegation in Clausura 2006 too, but eventually went all the way to the championship play-off final. Their success was not without controversy though, with vital victories over America and Necaxa (another club that comes under Televisa's stewardship) helping them survive at the expense of Culiacan Dorados. It is worth noting that in seven meetings with America, that 2:0 victory was the only occasion in which San Luis have avoided defeat against their more illustrious opponents.
There is nothing to suggest that any favours will be paid back in this match (America have since won 1:0 away to San Luis in the Apertura), but class should really prevail here. VCBet offer 41-40 on the Asian Handicap for America -0.5,-1. That looks worth a punt, with even a one-goal margin of victory giving you half your stake multiplied by the price, with half your stake returned.
